The Plan...

Athletes training for Olympic Distance Triathlons often train 2-3 times the distance they race. Runners who race 5K's often train 3-6 times the distance. Why is it that triatletes training for Ironman rarely approach the distance, much less double it? How about a 17 hour training day is a site developed to follow the progress of a team of athletes completing a study on the effects of such training.

More About Us...

The 2009 17 hour training day crew had great success at Ironman Canada. We are currently developing the 2010 team. Check back in late November for the next installment of "The 17 hour training day" crew.

Lair o' the Bear Trail Run

Saturday November 22 the team ran yet another long trail run. The Moab races were one week prior and the team was at it again. We met at 6:30 at the Conoco on Morrison road. It was 5.5 miles up to the Lair o the Bear parking lot where other teammates were waiting. We then ran through LOTB park and up to the Pence Park parking lot. Andrea and Steve had dropped three jugs of water, which was awesome and very needed!! We continued on up the "nonexistent" trail to the teepee and a gorgeous view. We retraced our steps all the way back to the Conoco. 25.3 miles total.

Catalina Island 50 mile Run

Steve, Anthony, Andrea and Sonja have signed up for the Catalina Island 50 mile Ultra race. The race takes place on Catalina Island, off the coast of Southern California on January 17, 2009. They only have a 50 mile option, and the race cutoff is 12 hours. The team, along with spouses, is flying to LA on Friday and taking the ferry over to the island. Saturday is the race, Sunday we will bum around Avalon, and that afternoon we will catch the ferry back to LA, and a late flight home. It should be a great mini-vacation for everyone, along with a beautiful race for the four of us.

Moab 50K and 20 miler

Successful races for all at the Moab 50K and 20 miler.
Andrea: 5:55:44 20 mile race (actual 23)
Steve: 6:41:17 50K race (actual 34): 50K Masters - 3rd
Sonja: 6:41:18 50K race (actual 34).
Anthony: 6:53:32 50K race (actual 34)

November Meeting

We talked about charting our percentage increase over the weeks based on intensity, mileage, frequency, and duration. Steve, Anthony, and Sonja have experienced the occurrence of minor and manageable pre-injuries. Steve - sciatic, Anthony - achilles, Sonja - calf. Andrea is unscathed and her mileage on the run has been slightly lower.

In December group hosted runs are abundant and so is vacation.

Dec 13th - Lair of the Bear. PC folks will be meeting and running the 12 mile out and back. IMC folks will meet at Conoco and run up to LOTB via the road.

Dec 20th - no extension will be added to this group run

Dec 27th - Tyler is hosting a point to point run and the IMC people will drop a car at the end and run to the start, then run with the group back to the car, thus doubling the mileage.

Dec 21st - Key Workout Swim - 5000 M at DU (long course). We will then add 1000 M each month until we hit the 10K mark.

Dec 8th - December Team Meeting

Andrea is out of town around 12/13, Steve is out 12/3 - 12/8, and Anthony is out for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Steve would like everyone to get in TWO (2) Computrainer sessions on the IMC course in December. Pick two days that work for you and input them in your calendars when he writes your schedule.

Colorado Trail Long runs

November 1st, 2008

The group, along with many friends and teamates, ran portions of the Colorado Trail. Andrea completed legs 1 and 2, totaling 28.2 miles. Steve, Anthony and Sonja completed legs 1-3 of the trail, totaling 41 miles. This event worked to extend our mental and physical tenacity for long distances.
